The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas sprawls across 300 acres in the picturesque hills just west of San Antonio, Texas, delivering a peaceful ranch-inspired atmosphere paired with an elegant yet approachable Texan charm. Following a comprehensive $100 million renovation project that wrapped up in March 2026, the property now boasts updated guest accommodations, revamped dining venues, five brand-new luxury villas, an enhanced driving range, and a stunning 2.2-acre lagoon complete with kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals.

Nightly room rates typically begin around $300 and can climb to $800 or higher during high-demand seasons. These premium pricing periods, especially, present exceptional opportunities for redeeming loyalty points, making it a smart choice for savvy travelers. As a Category 5 property within the World of Hyatt loyalty program, it aligns perfectly with strategies for maximizing value through points bookings.

During a two-night visit in March 2026, coinciding with the grand unveiling of The Big Spring lagoon, I had the chance to explore the freshly introduced facilities. While the resort graciously covered my lodging and meals, the perspectives shared in this detailed review are entirely my own, formed independently of any hospitality perks provided.

Location

Nestled approximately 17 miles west of San Antonio International Airport, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort offers a convenient yet secluded retreat. On my trip, a rideshare from the airport to the resort averaged about $30 in each direction. Given its standalone, all-encompassing design, guests intending to explore downtown San Antonio might find a rental car essential for flexibility. On-site self-parking is available for $25 per night.

The expansive grounds occupy a historic ranch managed by one family since 1887, with subtle tributes to its ranching legacy scattered throughout, such as rustic barns, classic windmills, and sturdy wooden fences that enhance the authentic Texas ambiance.

Rooms

Boasting 522 guest rooms that include standard configurations and spacious suites, all have undergone a stylish remodel infused with Southwestern design elements. Select rooms come equipped with either a balcony or a private patio for added outdoor access.

My accommodation was a Hill Country balcony suite featuring one king bed and a distinct living area furnished with a full-size sleeper sofa, spanning roughly 600 square feet and comfortably accommodating up to four guests. For bigger groups, two-bedroom suites provide even more room to spread out.

The bathroom impressed with its generous size and bright, inviting lighting that created a spa-like feel.

Ranch-inspired decor and artwork above the headboard celebrating Texas history gave the bedroom a genuine Lone Star State character that felt both cozy and immersive.

Both the bedroom and primary living space open directly onto the balcony via convenient doors. I always appreciate the ease of accessing fresh air, though these balconies proved quite slim and offered limited vistas. Consequently, unless the balcony option matches the price of a standard room or suite, I might not prioritize it for future stays.

For those seeking ultimate privacy, the resort's exclusive 2,330-square-foot luxury villas cater ideally to families or event groups willing to invest in a premium experience. These standalone retreats feature a shared living space with a fully equipped kitchen and four bedrooms, each with private en-suite bathrooms—two with king beds and two with double queen setups.

Villa guests enjoy additional perks like a private fire pit, screened patios, and access to the Windflower Spa's saunas, hot tubs, and private pool, elevating the stay to a home-away-from-home luxury.

Booking with Hyatt points

Classified as a Category 5 hotel in the World of Hyatt program, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas requires 17,000 to 23,000 points per night for standard rooms, or 32,000 points for a Hill Country suite. Note that following Hyatt's award chart adjustments in May 2026, this will adjust to 15,000 to 25,000 points per night.

Valuations place Hyatt points at approximately 1.8 cents apiece. On quieter weekdays, base rooms might run $300 cash or 17,000 points, yielding exactly that baseline value. During peak times when rates surge past $800 or 23,000 points, redemptions deliver superior value, potentially around 3.5 cents per point for standard rooms.

Hyatt sweetens the deal by waiving resort fees on award bookings, saving $60 nightly. Moreover, suite upgrade awards within World of Hyatt allow elevating a standard room to a Hill Country suite for enhanced luxury without extra cash outlay.

Dining options

Guests have seven diverse on-site venues for meals and beverages, plus round-the-clock room service to suit every craving.

Antlers Lodge

As the resort's flagship dining destination, Antlers Lodge delivers craft cocktails, an impressive wine selection, and classic upscale Texas steakhouse fare, highlighted by a dramatic antler chandelier that sets the tone.

I kicked off with the smoked Old Fashioned, presented with theatrical smoke effects. The drink balanced flavors beautifully, avoiding excessive sweetness for a refined sip.

Standouts among the appetizers were the wild boar meatballs topped with Parmesan, bursting with robust taste, alongside creamy white cheddar mac and cheese and perfectly charred Brussels sprouts.

For my entree, the game meat trio—featuring elk, boar, and beef served with fingerling potatoes—proved a winner. Though not a frequent game eater, the Texas setting inspired the choice, and it paid off with impeccably cooked, flavorful portions that weren't overwhelmingly wild.

Springhouse Cafe

This spot handles all-day casual dining with indoor seating and al fresco options at ground level, blending convenience with scenic views.

During my visit, I selected from the a la carte breakfast menu, though staff noted a buffet activates during busier periods. It's also the go-to for World of Hyatt Globalist members claiming their complimentary breakfast perk.

My daily choice of steel-cut oatmeal loaded with fresh fruits and seeds was outstanding in texture and taste. The broader menu tempts with fresh salads, hearty sandwiches, and varied entrees for lunch and dinner, though I didn't sample those.

Charlie’s Long Bar

The ultimate late-night social hub, Charlie’s Long Bar lives up to its moniker with an enormous bar area featuring cowhide stools, shuffleboard, a professional-grade pool table with leather pockets, darts, and almost a dozen screens for sports viewing.

Woodbine Bar

Tucked in the lobby, this luminous, open-air bar is perfect for quick bites or beverages. On pleasant days, staff slide open the rear window for a refreshing breeze.

Outdoor deck seating includes ample tables and a lineup of rocking chairs with sweeping property overlooks, ideal for unwinding.

Cactus Oak Tavern

Positioned opposite the golf pro shop, this tavern provides a complete bar menu and golfer-focused bites, serving players from morning through evening.

Poolside dining

Three additional outdoor eateries and bars dot the grounds: Papa Ed’s Pool Bar and Grill, Vince’s Watering Hole, and a bar right by The Big Spring lagoon for convenient refreshment.

Amenities

The Big Spring lagoon

Unveiled in March 2026 right as I arrived, this 2.2-acre artificial lagoon mimics a coastal escape with sandy shores and rentals for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, bringing beach vibes to inland Texas without the long drive.

Beach areas offered ample lounging room, but the water zone for paddling felt more confined—multiple crafts could quickly make it bustling.

Pools

Beyond the lagoon, four outdoor pools cater to all ages: family zones, kiddie pools, and adults-only retreats, ensuring refreshing escapes from the Texas sun for everyone.

Lazy river and waterslide

A leisurely 900-foot lazy river provides gentle, cooling drifts through the water features. Thrill-seekers can tackle the two-story waterslide for an adrenaline boost.

Windflower Spa

Adjacent to the villas, the Windflower Spa creates a tranquil sanctuary with separate men's and women's sections offering hot tubs, steam rooms, and dry saunas for ultimate relaxation.

My 50-minute massage stood out thanks to the innovative fully adjustable table, akin to a customizable bed, which amplified comfort beyond a traditional setup.

Hill Country Golf Club

This 27-hole championship layout covers over 200 acres encircling the resort, supported by a pro shop in the clubhouse, locker facilities, GPS carts, and a putting practice green.

The 2026 addition of the TopTracer driving range uses tracer-equipped balls for stats tracking and TopGolf-style games. Bays rent for $35 to $60 hourly, varying by time slot.

Fitness center

Available around the clock, the gym stocks Peloton bikes, free weights, treadmills, and ellipticals in a brightly lit, climate-controlled space with hydration stations and locker room saunas.

Family-friendly activities

A daily lobby chalkboard lists kid-centric fun, like evening s’mores sessions, T-shirt tie-dyeing, and assorted games. An arcade near the gym packs over a dozen classics.

Mornings at 8:30 bring birdseed buckets for feeding local wildlife, delighting nature lovers young and old.

Athletic courts

Outdoor sports abound with tennis, pickleball, and beach volleyball courts. Bike rentals start at 75 cents for the first hour, $10 thereafter, capping at $40 daily for kids' and adult sizes.

Volleyball-adjacent spots include fire pits, cornhole, and ping-pong for casual competition.

Is the resort worth it?

Among numerous Hyatt properties I've experienced, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort ranks high for its versatile blend of active pursuits and serene downtime. Tailor your days to relax in the lagoon or lazy river, poolside lounging, hiking, golfing, pickleball, volleyball, fireside chats—or cooled interiors. Families benefit from kid-focused programming that keeps everyone engaged.

Post-renovation rooms exude upscale comfort, with Antlers Lodge shining in cuisine and atmosphere. It stands out for award value against peer World of Hyatt resorts, dodging the $60 nightly resort fee via points bookings for maximum savings.
